Alan passed away on 19th September 2011 after a long battle.  Alan worked at well-known ChCh Music Store Sedley Wells from the early 60s almost right through to its closure in early 70s.  An accomplished guitarist, bass player and singer, he worked with amongst other ChCh groups the famed Neketini Brass, fronted by the talented Nick Nicolson and featuring many of the top players of the day.  For many years he performed alongside his best friends Judy Cooper and Buzz Burrell and a host of ChChs top musicians.  Alan will always be remembered for his quirky off-the-wall humour and an amazing knowledge of the industry and its characters - Nev Claughton

TRIBUTES

Sad.  Yet another good one gone.  A real hard case and a lovely bloke. - Peter Hindmarsh
Indeed RIP Alan Irvine - Ray Columbus
I am very sad to hear of Allan's passing.  Though I never played alongside him nor really kept a long lasting friendship over the years he is some one I will never forget.  It was Allan that started me on the serious musical career that I still express today.
A call to Sedley Wells:
"Gi'dday Allan I'm Paul Muggleston, I'm going to play with the Dynamics at The Plainsman.  I really need, want, a Fender Stratocaster like Hank Marvin plays, can you get me one in the same colour?"
"It's a lot of money Paul, a little over 117 pounds....................."
"Sheesh Allan I would have to pay for it over time, I'll talk to my dad."
Well of course we all know dad went guarantor and Allan got me on the road with my Fender to a wonderful life that I am still enjoying, (Perhaps sadly many miles away from you guys)
Love to you all from Las Vegas and RIP Allan...and thank you - Paul Muggleston
It is always sad to read of any of our fellow musicians departing the planet.  Please pass on my condolences to Alan's family.  Warmest regards to them all at this sad time - Larry Morris
I'm not sure if I knew Alan but may I offer my condolences for the loss of your friend.  By gosh Rock and Roll Heaven has a very fine collection of Kiwi musicians right now!! - Rob Winch
(email me your tribute to Alan and I'll add it in - andy@nzmusos.co.nz)
