DANCE BANDS AROUND MARTON 1959 - 1966
Gary Downs Dance Band 1959 to 1962
Played at most of the venues around the Marton-Manawatu areas. Tutaenui Hall, Victory Hall, Saint Francis Hall, Newbury Hall, Bulls Town Hall, Sanson, Tangiomoana, Feilding and Palmerston Aero clubs, Anglican Church hall Marton, and Rangitikei College Hall school dances.
Band members were Gary Downs - Piano
Ray Judson – Lead and Rhythm Guitar,
Barry Slade Bass, and Bill Trask
Nevill Lewis then Maurice Loomy on Drums,
Hugh Fitzsimmons on trumpet.
Enjoyed my 3 years playing around the Marton
area, also made a bit of cash and made lots of friends. Attended a lot of
parties after the dances also. Never used to get home till about 4am on Sunday
mornings. What a hard life.
